Ponds Liners
When space and time are limited, a garden pond can be made with a pre-formed pond liner. They are quick and easy to install, and preformed liners are best suited for small ponds. Usually, indoor or patio ponds are made from pre-formed pond liners. Preformed ponds are ideal for places where the water garden is going to built around instead of digging into the ground. Pre-formed fiberglass liners are suitable for strength.
On large holding ponds, plastic liners are often used when economy is more of a concern than flexibility. The pre-formed liners found in many homes and gardens are less desirable because they basically are large plastic or fiberglass tubs. They seem to be easy to install although handling and maintenence is considerably more difficult. Fiberglass pre-formed ponds are an ideal solution for a raised pond installation. The inner surface is smooth and black, which causes the water depth to seem more than it is. Rocks and the weight of water above the ground can be easily supported without the liner bending or cracking.
PVC preformed liners have UV stabilizers that protect the liner from breaking down from constant exposure to sunlight. The Pond Guard Pre-cut EPDM rubber liner is a good choice; it is economical and easy to install. The black material is fish-friendly, and is easy to work with even in colder temperatures, so work on the pond can be done in the wintertime as well as the summer. The creation of pre-formed pond liners has lessened the problems of building and excavating concrete pools. Pond liners of different shapes and sizes are available at a fraction of the cost of concrete liners. It is now possible to create a home garden pond in a single day and stock it with plants and fish by the next morning. The simplest form of pool is the above-the-ground pool. Since digging is not required, it takes more time to fill it with water than to build it up.
However, preformed pond liners do have their own limitations. First, the liners are difficult to transport, and there are limitations of shape and size, unlike flexible liners, which can be folded and carried more easily. The materials of pre-formed liners will not conform to the expectations of space and size, so the pond has to be dug in the shape of the liner. No adjustments are possible during installation. There is a limit on choice of material. And the pond has a more natural look that blends with the landscape. The choice of liner will depend on factors such as budget, surrounding landscape, longevity, and personal taste. For a more customizable appearance, it’s better to use flexible pond liners, but for a quicker formation, use a fiberglass or plastic preformed liner.
